LATEST NEWS

We have just held a 6 week workshop series in Maroochydore and run two 1/2 day taster sessions in Caboolture with involvement of two local services Connecytions and CKBAMHSS. A six week series is being planned for Caboolture later in the year.

Comments from past participants include “the benefit for me was being a part of a group” “I was able to be a little silly and laugh and to finish something that started is really very helpful” “I got in touch with my artistic side, met new people and learnt much”
“I learnt to reach the heart of my story I learnt to take my space with confidence” “Connected me to a community of people with whom I felt a great sense of belonging. Sharing our experiences led to sharing ourselves and we were safe to do so freely.”

Regional / Rural Areas Missing out | Thomas Toth/ C/ the email address below
Just seems such a shame, that consumers and people really caught up in consumer participation, seem to miss out on meeting the people from The Alliance.
Also miss out on wonderful, lunchtime meetings and talks.
These talks could take place regionally too, doesn,t take much to come visit some of the areas, where consumer participation is very active, but also where there is no MHA, etc
Places where there is a MHA & or members on committees of Alliance, state councils etc.
Places like Bundaberg, Cairns, Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Gympie, Brisbane and the like seem to also get access to the workshops.
If you live in places that are on the coast, or inland a little, and don,t have these committee members living in your area you are disadvantaged.
We are all members of the Alliance, MHA etc, but we always miss out.

I am interested in This but I cannot see anywhere if there is a cost involved or is this a free event??
A Worthwhile Event | Laurel Sandilands
Thanks for holding this great day. The Playback Artists were exceptionally good listeners which was reflected in talented intuitive responses. Very moving. Lovely morning tea and lunch and the afternoon forum presented some networking and discussion that has been absent for too long.Looking forward to more.
Change Legislation to Prevent Discrimination of People with Mental Health Issues | Marilyn Jan Seib
I would like to see legislative changes to our current Mental Health Act 2000. At present, State PublicHospital Mental Health Units can write up Crisis Management Plans/Behaviour Plans and apply theseto patients in crisis/displaying suicidal ideations. These patients can be discharged from ED of State Hosptilals at any hour of the day. These Crisis Management Plans are being formed without the patient or family members being present or being involved with the compilation of such plans. If a patient does self harm they are being medically cleared then sent home, whether the mental health state is stable or not. I believe that this is discrimination and a dangerous practice to anybody suffering from mental health issues whereby suicidal ideation and self harm is being exhibited. I have experienced this type of treatment in the Redlands Public Hospital/Bayside Mental Health Unit only recently.
