On Tuesday 27 July, the national Labor Government released its action plan on mental health. Please find attached below, the Fact Sheet released by Government. Entitled, 'Taking Action to Tackle Suicide', the Gillard Labor Government’s package focused on preventing the tragedy of suicide and promoting better mental health promises to:
•Boost frontline services for people at greatest risk.
•Invest more in direct suicide prevention and crisis intervention.
•Provide more services and support to men.
•Promote good mental health and resilience in young people.

The Queensland Alliance have, and will continue to, publicly welcome Labor’s promise to provide support that is desperately needed, and a broad range of assistance to people in their own homes and communities.
In particular the $9M towards ‘Making sure our investments deliver better outcomes’ is a positive measure. This ‘report card’ will be geared towards ensuring Medicare Locals and Local Hospital Networks are monitored on their performance of mental health services. It offers carers and consumers direct input into determining these outcomes.
The Liberal National Party (LNP) Coalition’s $1.5 billion mental health plan was released in June.
The LNP mental health plan promises to:
• Establish 20 Early Psychosis Intervention Centres in major metropolitan and regional areas, providing healthcare aimed at recovery and prevention of relapse.
• Provide 800 beds for acute and sub-acute care specifically to support the Early Psychosis Prevention and Intervention Centres.
• Fund an additional 60 headspace sites, providing one-stop-shops for young people with information and services relating to general health and wellbeing, mental health and alcohol and drug services.
