Translating and Interpretive Services Information Sheets Updated

Recently Communities Funded NGOs have received letters from the Department about the new streamlined Translating and Interpreter Services process for funded service providers. The new system began on Thursday 1 July 2010.

The department has created individual Translating and Interpreting Services (TIS) National client codes for service providers funded through the department.

The old reimbursement system will be used in the event that TIS is unable to meet a client’s language, gender or cultural request. In this instance, a professional interpreter accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) may be engaged to provide the service.

In order for the NGO to be eligible for reimbursement, contact with TIS must be made before any attempt to engage another NAATI accredited interpreter is made. The updated information sheets are attached to this email and are also available on Community Door.

There will be a 3 month transition period until 30 September 2010 where the reimbursement process currently being used by services will continue to allow payment of invoices for calls made before 1 July 2010.

Whilst this new funding process is being trialled, the Support with Interpreting, Translating and Communication strategy that Disability Services has funded Deaf Services Queensland to implement, will also continue. Disability Services will review this funding process in late 2010.
