The DVD tells the stories of Rockhampton region locals, including members of the Indigenous community, sharing their experiences of the impact of mental illness and suicide on themselves and their families.
The DVD resource was developed by the Rockhampton Indigenous Social and Emotional Wellbeing Group (ISEWG).
This 10 minute suicide prevention DVD was auspiced by Bidgerdii Community Health and funded through the Queensland Alliance and Community Mental Health Branch, Department of Communities.
The aim of Walk with Me - Talk with Me’ DVD is to provide a low cost, easily accessible resource to support members of the Murri community who are feeling alone, desperate and disconnected from their family and community.
On August 31, the DVD was officially launched in Brisbane, hosted by Queensland Aboriginal & Islander Health Council (QAIHC).
QAIHC is the state peak body representing the Community Controlled Health Sector in Queensland at both state and national level.
Auspicing organisation; Bidgerdii Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation Community Health Services Central Queensland Region (Bidgerdii); is an Aboriginal medical service based in Rockhampton. The film was produced by Bush TV, through RAIN (Regional Aboriginal and Islander Network), which connects the Indigenous communities of Queensland by providing a corporate-level marketing and media network to remote Councils and community organisations. The DVD was also made possible by Sandy Paton (President, Capricorn Development Association) and Melody Edwardson (Industry Development Manager, Queensland Alliance).
